Iyassu Bekele Moves to Bulgaria

Bulgarian third division side FC Kaliakra Kavarna have signed Ethio-American midfielder Iyassu Bekele on a 6 months deal with an option for 1 more year extension.

Steven Henning and David Beshah, who happens to represent Iyassu, broke the news on their Facebook handle stating their happiness on the move.

Iyassu, 24, joined local side Dedebit during the summer window after he had a brief spell in United States. Born and raised in Addis Ababa, the midfielder started off some games for the Blues in the Addis Ababa City Cup and the Ethiopian Premier League coming as a substitute.

Kaliakra Kavarna is a third division Bulgarian side. They play in North-Eastern V Group. They failed to win 4 of their last 5 games in all competitions recently. The club spent most of its history in amateur football before making a rapid ascent to the second flight of Bulgarian football in 1980.

Henning stated his delight after the move is materialized as Iyassu traveled on Sunday night to join his new club. “We are very happy to announce that our client Iyassu Bekele signed with Bulgarian side Kaliakra Kavarna of till the end of the season. The young midfield all-rounder will be one of the first Ethiopian ever that moved directly from Ethiopia to Europe. We wish him the best of luck,” wrote Henning on his Facebook official handle.
