The Ethiopian Premier League enters its last day with five games to be played today. Since Kidus Giorgis crowned champions of the topflight league all eyes will be on the crucial relegation battle between Electric and Dashen Bira.
In Addis Ababa Stadium Electric lock horns with Ethiopia Nigd Bank. Winning the duel will guarantee ‘The Reds’ a place in the premier league. Electric coach Birhanu Bayou is confident that his charges will do whatever it takes to avoid relegation.
“The last game is very decisive. This team should not have played being in this position. With our display and the quality players that we have at our disposal, we do not deserve to be here. Electric won’t go down. We will pay all the necessary sacrifices so as Electric to survive relegation,” stated Birhanu.
The season started for Dashen Bira on a bright note. They won the Addis Ababa Amber City Cup, an annual preseason tourney organized by the AAFF.
Nevertheless, things started to collapse since then. The Gondar side have been in the relegation battle for much of the season. Dashen’s caretaker coach Tegegn Equabay, on his part, told Soccer Ethiopia that he has a strong belief on his squad to avoid relegation. “The motivation among the players is very good. We are making progress gradually. In our last game, I can certainly speak that we are going to beat Sidama Bunna and avoid relegation,” said Tegegn.
Dashen Bira host Sidama Bunna at Adama. Only two points separate Dashen and Electric as we enter the last day of the league.
