Adane Girma Strikes Late to Send Giorgis to the Semis

Kidus Giorgis roar back from behind to beat the rejuvenated ArbaMinch Ketema 3-2 in the quarter final of the Ethiopian League Cup. Kidus Giorgis put on hold to their league title celebration as they traveled east to play ArbaMinch Ketema, who came to the tie after a 4-1 drubbing of Diredawa Ketema in closing fixture of the topflight league, in Adama.

ArbaMinch Ketema started the game on a bright note as they constantly tested the Horsemen. ArbaMinch’s resilience paid off when captain Amanuel Gobena beats the offside trap to slot home inside the area to make it 1-0 two minutes after the half hour mark. Salahdin Said restored parity midway through to the second half as he capitalizes on the defensive howler of goalie Anteneh Mesa and Biadgelegn Elias. Teshome Tadesse restored the lead in the 71st minute after being set up by Amele Milkias. Nonetheless, two late goals from Adane Girma sealed Giorgis’s win.

The semi-final duels will be played on Tuesday at the same venue. Adama Ketema and Kidus Giorgis lock horns whilst Ethiopia Nigd Bank and Mekelakeya faceoff to progress to the final showdown. The winner of the League Cup will represent Ethiopia in the 2017 CAF Confederations Cup.
