The 2016/17 season Ethiopian Premier League week 6 duels will be played on Sunday as table toppers Kidus Giorgis and Sidama Bunna lock horns in Yirgalem. Ethiopia Bunna visits Wolaitta Dicha likewise Dedebit are against the winless Ethio-Electric.
The biggest tie of the week is arguably Sidama Bunna against Kidus Giorgis. Kidus Giorgis tops the log table with 10 points while their adversaries of the day, Sidama Bunna, are second with 9. Kidus Giorgis failed to bounce back after their defeat to Fasil Ketema on Week 4 as they were held to a goalless draw by Adama Ketema on Round 5 in Addis Ababa. Kidus Giorgis holds the upper hand on head-to-head against Sidama Bunna. The Yirgalem outfit has never beaten Kidus Giorgis since they gain promotion to the top tier league.
Kidus Giorgis will be coming out guns blazing in search of a victory away. Sidama Bunna has a 100% record at home but it will be tough to get a point against the reigning champions. Sidama Bunna will be relying heavily on their artistic forward Addis Gidey.
Wolaitta Dicha hosts Ethiopia Bunna in Sodo. The Addis Ababa club broke the hoodoo on week 5 after a 2-1 win over Sidama Bunna. While a packed stadium and support of Dicha faithful is guaranteed on Sunday, the club will be looking at restoring their supporters’ pride following their disappointing -0 draw on week 5 against Dire Dawa Ketema. Ethiopia Bunna hopes to earn the maximum points on a crunch away duel.
Dedebit are unbeaten in two games after caretaker coach Asrat Haile took over the helm fortnight ago. The Blues are up against Ethio-Electric, the only club which yet to get the maximum points. Ethio-Electric drew 4 and lost ones since the season’s opener. Electric will be without midfielder Dawit Estifanos, who is suspended after his dismissal last week.
Hawassa Ketema has a tough task overcoming Fasil Ketema in Gondar. Fasil Ketema enjoys a large fans turnout rate at Fasiledes Stadium which makes it even tougher for oppeonents to snatch points. Fail Ketema has shocked Addis giants Kidus Giorgis and Ethiopia Bunna and they might pull another upset against the two times Ethiopian champions Hawassa Ketema. In the midst of the week Hawassa Ketema has suspended players for indecency and demoted captain Girma Bekele as left back Desta Yohannis replaced him to wear the armband.
Elsewhere, Adama Ketema and Woldia square off in Adama with premier league rookies Addis Ababa Ketema visiting ArbaMinch Ketema on Sunday. Dire Dawa Ketema and Ethiopia Nigd Bank face off. CAF Confederation Cup participants Mekelakeya hosts Jimma Aba Bunna in Addis Ababa on the late kickoff.
