Ethiopian Premier League week 9 games kickoff on Wednesday as Addis Ababa Ketema’s woes continue. Mekelakeya and Ethiopia Nigd Bank shared spoils in the earlier kickoff.
Newly promoted side Fasil Ketema brushed aside Addis Ababa Ketema 2-0 in Addis Ababa to register their first back to back away win. Togolese Edem Housrouvi bagged a brace in the first interval to hand the Emperors a much needed maximum points. Addis Ababa Ketema’s center back Dimetrios Weldeselassie was penalized for hand ball inside the area five minutes after the onset. Housrouvi stepped up and successfully converted the resultant spot kick. The capital city club tried to possess the ball in the middle of the park while the visitor’s persevere in their counter attacking football style. Housrouvi doubled the lead in the 32nd minute after collecting a pass from Henok Gemtesa. The win took the Gondar club third in the league standing with 15 points having a game in hand. Addis Ababa Ketema further plunged to 16th with 5 points from nine games.
Mekelakeya and Ethiopia Nigd Bank settled for a point each after their goalless draw in Addis Ababa. Ethiopia Nigd Bank managed to halt Mekelakeya’s three games winning streak. Both sides couldn’t find the back of the net throughout the duel even with a multiple scoring chances came begging. The Army side were unlucky not to go ahead in the 10th minute when Samuel Saliso’s goal bound strike parried away by Bank’s Nigerian goalie Emmanuel Fevour. Dagnachew Bekele, Yonas Geremew and Tadios Wolde tested Ethiopian international Abel Mamo from range in the first half. Mekelakeya are fourth with 15 points, inferior to Fasil Ketema on goal difference, whilst Ethiopia Nigd Bank are 10th with 9 points.
