League Leaders Dedebit, Adama Ketema Drop Points as Kidus Giorgis Close Gap

Five week 9 Ethiopian Premier League duel were played yesterday across the country as Dedebit and Adama Ketema dropped two valuable points after their draw against ArbaMinch Ketema and Ethio-Electric. Kidus Giorgis thumped Dire Dawa Ketema 3-0. Jimma Aba Bunna elapsed their losing streak in style following a 2-0 win over Sidama Bunna. Hawassa Ketema and Wolaitta Dicha were involved in six goal thriller.

Dedebit missed out on a chance to stretch their lead at the top of the standing as they were held 1-1 by ArbaMinch Ketema. The inform Ethiopian international Getaneh Kebede handed the Blues a deserved lead with a wonder strike from 18 meters out. The Crocodiles came to level terms in the second half through Wendmeneh Zerihun’s free kick.

Ethio-Electric and Adama Ketema settled for a barren draw in Addis Ababa. Adama’s Mujib Kassim missed a stoppage time penalty as Adama forced to share points with the struggling Electric side.

Jimma Aba Bunna recorded their second win of the season with a victory over Sidama Bunna. Former Sidama player Biyadegelegn Elias opened the scoring for the Jimma outfit in the 35th minute through a successfully converted spot kick. Ame Mohammed doubled the advantage 3 minutes after the recess as Aba Bunna came out on top to bag maximum points.

Kidus Giorgis trounced Easterners Dire Dawa Ketema 3-0 in Addis Ababa. The Horsemen were efficiently ruthless as they tested victory following their bitter defeat to arch rivals Ethiopia Bunna last week in Sheger Derby. Adane Girma headed home a rebound when Abebaw Butako’s free kick struck the upright at the quarter hour mark. Salahdin Said added the second with a fine finish inside the area in the 67th minute. Burkinabe Abdulkerim Nikima put the game out of reach of the East Ethiopian side 7 minutes from time as Kidus Giorgis close the gap at the top of the standing.

In heavily contested tie Hawassa Ketema and Wolaitta Dicha settled for a point each following their 3-3 draw in Hawassa. The Sodo side managed to get a two goals cushion in space of 4 minutes courtesy of Melaku Wolde’s own goal and Thomas Simretu’s header in the 24th and 28th minute respectively. Togolese Arafat Djako pull one back five minutes later before Firew Solomon restored parity in the 40th minute. In a dramatic turn of events Fiew put Hawassa ahead with a well taken penalty. However, Alazar Fasika rescued Messay Teferi’s side in the 89th minute through a header.

Dedebit and Adama Ketema occupies the top of the log table with 18 points. Kidus Giorgis are third with 17 points. Fasil Ketema and Mekelakeya follow with 15 points each. Ethio-Electric, Hawassa Ketema and Addis Ababa Ketema are dangling in the drop zones. Getaneh Kebede tops the goal scoring chart with 9 goals. Adane Girma is second with five. Salahdin Said, Edem Housrouvi, Firew Solomon are joint third with 4 goals.
