Albanian outfit KF Skënderbeu Korçë have completed the signing of Ethiopian midfielder Binyam Belay on a three years deal. Although Korçë based club yet to confirm the move, Binyam’s mentor and Ethiopian Football Federation technical advisor Joachim Fickert confirmed to Soccer Ethiopia that the club have acquired the service of the former Ethiopia Nigd Bank player.
Fickert told Soccer Ethiopia that Binyam put pen to paper a three years deal at the Albanian side. “Binyam joined KF Skënderbeu Korçë, which is an Albanian side, on a three years contract as far as I know. The club is well known for signing young talents from Africa. They have won the league four times in the past five seasons.”
KF Skënderbeu Korçë, based in the South Eastern Albania city of Korçë, is established 92 years ago in 1925. The club has won 7 Albanian Superliga titles, where 6 of them came after the 2010/11 season. The club has become a dominate force in Albanian League football in recent years as they conquered the league 6 times in the last 7 seasons. They are also the first Albanian side to reach the UEFA Champions League playoffs and the Europa League group stages.
KF Skënderbeu Korçë failed to defend their title in 2016/17 season as they finished third in the log table with 72 points. They are currently competing in the 2017/18 Europa League playoff as they will face Croatian giants GNK Dinamo Zagreb.
Binyam’s move will make him the first Ethiopian player to play in Albanian league. In recent month, he had unsuccessful trial stint in Germany and Austria.
