Ethiopian international Oumed Okuri struck twice in space of two minutes to help Smouha SC bounce back to winning ways in Egyptian topflight week 20 encounter in Cairo International Stadium against El Nasr Club. The brace ended Oumed’s goal drought in the Egyptian Premier League.
The homers stared off the duel on a bright note as they searched for an early goal at early stage of the duel whilst Smouha struggled to make impact for much of the first half. Nevertheless, it was the visitors who took the lead at stroke of half time through Oumed. Oumed shrugged off his marker to fire past Nasr goalie Mostafa Hatiba in the 44th minute following a brilliant glancing header from Mohamed Hamdy Zaki. Omued doubled the lead two minute later before the end of the interval through a header. Oumed completed his brace as he heads home a Manga perfect delivery from a set piece.
El Nasr piled on the pressure to reverse the score line but it was to no avail, However, Smouha players were the culprits for spurring countless scoring opportunities. Oumed’s chip shot went over the cross bar five minutes after the recess before his strike inside the area deflected out for a corner. Hatiba was altered in many occasions to deny Smouha players from extending the lead. Smouha right back Mahmoud Moaaz and El Nasr center back Mohamed Haggag were sent off after a second booking.
The Alexandria outfit collected three important points as they push for a place in CAF Confederations Cup next season. Oumed has got 3 goals in the bag thus far. Comparatively the striker is having quite a low season; although he has stared almost all league games.
Smouha sits fourth in the standing with 32 points, 13 points shy of defending champions and table toppers Al Ahly. Petrojet, home to Ethiopian midfielder Shemelese Bekele, are 14th with 21 points. Petrojet tackles ENPPI on week 20 this Wednesday, January 24.
