Ethiopia eliminates Egypt in U-17 AfCON Qualifier

The Ethiopian U-17 national team have beaten Egypt 2-1 in the African U-17 Nations Cup qualifier second leg. Ethiopia had taken a comfortable 3-1 lead before the clash in Dire Dawa. Abubakher Nassero’s brace was enough to hand the Red Foxes a 5-2 aggregate win over Egypt.

Abubakher gave Ethiopia the lead 11 minutes after the onset with a clinical finish inside the area.

Egypt pilled on the pressure after conceding but the playing pitch of the Dire Dawa Stadium put them in plight. The hosts took a slander lead to the second half.

Harar City’s Abubakher completed his brace five minutes after the recess. Abubakher capitalized on a defense howler from the Egyptians. Egypt ultimately pulled one back in the 86th minute through a Hazem Faraghaly free kick. Ethiopian goalie Ogna Oumgna was at fault for the goal.

Ethiopia is likely to face Mali in the last qualifying round. The 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup runner-ups Mali managed to beat Chad 9-0 in the first leg.
