Fasil Ketema Crowned Champions of the Higher League

Fasil Ketema have been crownd champions of the Ethiopian Higher League for 2015/16 season after beating Jimma Aba Bunna 3-1 in a playoff final tie at Abebe Bikila Memorial Stadium. Addis Ababa Ketema pip Woldia on penalities as they elapsed the season being third.

Addis Ababa Ketema and Woldia ended their third place playoffs duel in one all draw in the regulation time before Addis Ababa won 8-7 on penalty shootouts. Haile Eshetu broke the deadlock to hand the capital city club the lead in the first interval. The torrential rain hindered the game for 40 minutes as the rain socked pitch was unsuitable to play. Yared Hassan restored parity for Woldia in the second half through a great finish. Addis Ababa emerged victorious on penalty kicks.

Fasil Ketema were too good for Jimma Aba Bunna as they won the Higher League in emphatic fashion. Fasil won the tie 3-1. Henok Gemtesa gave the Gondar side the lead through a spectacular free kick. Abulrahman Mubarak doubled the lead when he finished off a great build up with a simple tap in. Abubakher Desalegn made it 3-0 early in second half before Ame Mohammed pulled one back for the Jimma side as he struck inside area.

Ame took home the top goal king award and 12,000 Birr prize money after netting 21 goals in the 2015/16. Fasil’s Abulrahman awarded with the most valuable player trophy whilst Addis Ababa custodian Tekelemariam Shanko for the second time running has received the goalkeeper of the season award. Fasil Ketema boss Zemariam WeldeGiorgis received accolades for guiding the club back to the top tier league.
