AA City Cup: Kidus Giorgis Trashed Electric, Mekelakeya and Jimma Aba Bunna in Stalemate

The Addis Ababa City Cup, an annual preseason tournament contested between 8 clubs, kicked off today in Addis Ababa Stadium with Group A games being played. Mekelakeya and Jimma Aba Bunna played out a goalless draw while Kidus Giorgis off to a flying start after crashing Electric 4-1.
Ethiopian Premier League newcomers Jimma Aba Bunna held Mekelakeya to goalless stalemate. In the first interval both sides were in pursuit to control the middle of the park as few goal scoring opportunities were observed. Aba Bunna’s duo Ame Mohammed and Dawit Tefera came very close to hand the West Ethiopian side the lead but failed to find the net. Mesfin Kidane and Samuel Saliso had the best chances of the interval for the Army side. However, they squandered the opportunities. Aba Bunna came out stronger after the recess with a more offensive strategy but were not rewarded with a goal.
Kidus Giorgis were ruthless as they thumped Electric 4-1. Abubakher Sani gave the Horsemen the lead 7 minutes after the onset when he put past Ghanaian Soulimana Aboubakri. The game was halted for few minutes after the ex Dedebit custodian sustained injury which forced him to be substituted by Ogna Omugena. Addis Negash leveled matters from the spot after Degu Debebe brought down Ugandan Manko Kewese. Abubakher restored the lead deep into the stoppage time with a spectacular fashion. A minute later, Ramkel Lok made it 3 with a simple finish inside the area. Ramkel completed his brace in the second half when he flicked on a Behailu Assefa’s free kick.
Kidus Giorgis top Group A with 3 points while Mekelakeya and Jimma Aba Bunna taking 2nd and 3rd places. The City Cup continues on Sunday as Ethiopia Nigd Bank and Addis Ababa Ketema faceoff while Dedebit lock horns with Adama Ketema on the later game.
