Ethio-Electric and Kidus Giorgis picked up victories over their opponents as they set up Addis Ababa City Cup final date. Ethiopia Nigd Bank and Adama Ketema failed to win their semifinal encounter.
Ethio-Electric emerged victorious over 10 men Adam Ketema on penalty shootout. The teams settled for a one all draw in the regulation time before heading to the decisive penalties. Adama Ketema were reduced to 10 men in the 27th minute after center back Tesfaye Bekele given the marching order for dissent. Dawit Estifanos struck the woodwork twice before giving Electric the lead in the 69th minute from the half way line. Adama custodian Jafar Delil’s howler was the key factor that led to Electric’s goal.
Adama Ketema fought hard to level matters and they were almost rewarded in the 75th minute through Moges Tadesse’s header that struck the crossbar. Adama’s captain Souliman Mohammed pull his side level with a fine free kick five minutes later. With the scores tied up at 1-1 the teams went straight to penalty shootouts in which Electric won 5-4 after their goalie Soulimana Aboubakheri saved Sisay Toli’s penal.
Kidus Giorgis were too good for Ethiopia Nigd Bank as the Horsemen condemned them to a 2-0 win. Giorgis storm into a 2-0 lead before the first interval through Aboubakher Sani’s brace. Aboubakher scored twice to give Giorgis a two goals cushion in the 9th and 35th minute.
Nigerian forward Peter Nuwadke was unlucky to see his goal bound free kick hitting the upright in the 27th minute. Mussie GebreKidan pulled off a great save from Salahdin Said’s powerful volley for the games notable chance after the recess. The ex Kidus Giorgis U-17 captain Aboubakher is having quiet a good time in the City Cup after bagging five goals in just 4 games.
Ethio-Electric started off their City Cup campaign losing 4-1 to eventual finalists Kidus Giorgis. Electric managed to reach final 8 years wait while Kidus Giorgis waited 3 years to go through to the final. Electric crowned champions of the tourney only ones under the guidance of Asrat Haile in 2008/09 season. Kidus Giorgis won the cup with a win over Ethiopia Medhin three years ago. Ethiopia Nigd Bank entertains Adama Ketema for the third place playoffs on Sunday.
