The 2015/16 Soccer Ethiopia’s readers and editors Football Person of the Year recipients Getaneh Kebede and Loza Abera have received their awards on Tuesday. The website readers and editors casted their votes as the Dedebit duo beat their rivals resoundingly to take home the award.

Ethiopian international Getaneh has got 68% votes as he claimed the 2015/16 Soccer Ethiopia’s Football Person of the Year in the men category. The striker with a killer instinct saw a memorable outing both for club and country. Getaneh netted 6 times in 2017 Total African Cup of Nations group qualifying rounds while he bagged two goals in the 2018 Russia World Cup African qualifying zone. He put three past Algeria in a two legged game likewise he showed his composure and ability to score quality goals during the Lesotho duel. Even though his former club University of Pretoria relegated from the South African top tier, the goal poacher spent relatively a better season.

Geatneh received his accolade from Soccer Ethiopia’s editor Daniel Mesfin. Getaneh expressed his delight following receiving the award. “I am very happy to be voted as Football Person of the year. It is a pleasure to be the first male to win the award. I am very content that I have had a superb season but I have remorse that none of my successes could take Ethiopia to AfCON. If we had secured qualification to AfCON, I would have been much happier. The award will be a motivation to me to perform better and win other accolades this season,” said Getaneh.

Loza Abera has got 86% votes from the total votes casted by Soccer Ethiopia’s readers and editors to be the 2015/16 Soccer Ethiopia’s Women Person of the Year. The center forward arguably had a great season. She has scored 57 league goals as Dedebit crowned Ethiopian Women Premier League champions. Loza also bagged 6 goals in the FIFA U-20 Women World Cup African qualifier when Ethiopia narrowly missed a spot in the U-20 World Cup. Loza netted ones when Ethiopia bundled out of the African Women Nations Cup qualifier at the hands of Algeria.

Loza accepted her accolade from Soccer Ethiopia’s executive editor Omna Tadele. The goal poacher stated she is satisfaied with the award and thanked everyone who casted a vote to her. “First and foremost I want to thank God who made this happen. Secondly, I want to express my gratitude for anyone who voted for me including the editors at Soccer Ethiopia. It is my first award ever and I want to get more and more awards in the year coming. The award serves me as a motivation to work hard and be a good player. I want to perform and do better than last season in 2016/17 season.”

  1. Why isn’t Loza playing in Europe? She should get with an agent and start playing there as soon as possible. Otherwise her talent will be wasted.
