Kidus Giorgis went four points clear at the top after a resounding victory over ArbaMinch Ketema in week 16 match of the Ethiopian Premier League. The much anticipated duel between Dedebit and Ethiopia Bunna ended in goalless stalemate. Sidama Bunna pulled of a huge upset of the week with their surprising win over Fasil Ketema. Hawassa Ketema beat Addis Ababa Ketema in a crucial tie.
Kidus Giorgis were too good for ArbaMinch Ketema as they condemned them to a 4-1 score line in ArbaMinch. Adane Girma struck a second half brace before Behailu Assefa handed the Horsemen the lead at stroke of half time. Tadele Mengesha pulled one back for the Crocodiles in the 89th minute through a superb free kick but Giorgis’s Ivorian import Bruno Kone scored a debut league goal in his first appearance of the topflight to make it 4-1. A crowd trouble has been observed after the game ended with security forces using excessive power to stabilize the situation. The result saw Kidus Giorgis to continue being at summit of the league with 32 points. ArbaMinch Ketema are 7th with 22 points.
Sidama Bunna completed a league double over newbies Fasil Ketema when they cruise past the Gondar outfit 3-1 in front of a packed Fasiledes Stadium. Haitian Saurel Olurish put the Yirgalem based club the lead with a good free kick. However, Natnael Ganjila struck the equalized in the 36th minute to level matters. Sidama’s talisman Addis Gidey gave his side the lead again in the 71st minute. Wesenu Maaze struck the third as Sidama came out victorious from Gondar. Fasil Ketema players and Fans were frustrated with match official Beamlk Tessema’s call not to award them penalties. Sidama Bunna leapfrogged Fasil Ketema to sit third with 28 points, inferior in goal difference to Dedebit, while Fasil drop to fifth with 26 points.
The much anticipated duel of the week between Addis Ababa sides Dedebit and Ethiopia Bunna ended scoreless. Ethiopia Bunna dominated the proceedings against a very defensive Dedebit team but they were denied by the post twice as the sides share spoils. Elias Mamo and Ahmed Reshide were unlucky to see their efforts striking the upright in each half. Dedebit are still second with 28 points. Ethiopia Bunna remains 6th with 25 points.
Dire Dawa Ketema came from behind to salvage a late draw against Adama Ketema at home. The 2015/16 season goal king Tafesse Tesfaye scored the opener after a goal mouth scramble left him free to find the back of the net in the 5th minute. Adama opted for a much defensive tactic following their early lead. That came costly at the end as a direct corner from ex Hawassa Ketema striker Bereket Yisak leveled the score at brink of full time. Adama Ketema occupies fourth 5 points adrift of table toppers Kidus Giorgis. Zelalem Shiferaw’s Dire Dawa are 13th with 16 points.
Hawassa Ketema pip Addis Ababa Ketema 1-0 in Abebe Bikila Memorial Stadium. An own goal from Gite Gatkoch gave the two times Ethiopian champions maximum points. The result saw Hawassa leaving the relegation zone to be 11th with 17 points. The capital city club continues to dangle in the drop zone with 10 points.
A very defensive minded Wolaitta Dicha forced Mekelakeya to a barren draw in the last kick off the round. Mekelakeya created numerous scoring opportunities with attempts from outside of the box throughout the tie. The Sodo club managed to grasp a single point after a poor end of their first round campaign. Mekelakeya sits 8th with 21 points whilst Wolaitta Dicha are 10th with 18 points.
Getaneh Kebede of Dedebit leads the top goal scoring chart with 11 goals. Kidus Giorgis’s forward Adane Girma follows after netting 9 goals. Ethio-Electric’s Fitsum Gebremariam and Salahdin Said of Kidus Giorgis are joint third with 7 goals.
