Walid Atta Set to Join Sogndal on Loan

Najran SC Ethiopian defender Walid Atta is set to join Norwegian Eliteserien League side Sogndal Fotball till July 2017.

The 30 year old is currently plying his trade in Saudi Arabia for first division side Najran SC. However, the Ethiopian centerback pondered to leave the Saudi club as the league comes to an end after four games. Walid is expected in Norway to tie up a deal with Sogndal this week.

Walid exclusively told Soccer Ethiopia that the deal is going through. “Yes it is true that I am moving to Norway. The season in Saudi Arabia is ending after 4 games so I needed to get some playing time outside of the country likewise they can’t register me until next season. Sogndal has shown interest on me so I am going on loan to Norway,” said Walid.

Sogndal manager Havard Flo alluded to nettavisen.no that all is in place for Walid to complete his switch to the club. “All the formalities are in place for Walid Atta, but we are waiting for his player pass from the Saudi Arabia club,” said Flo. He further added “He (Walid) is a player with a lot of good experience from the time in Sweden. He is a center back with good duel force. We envisage that he can be a good mentor for the other players.”

Walid signed for Najran only on February after leaving Ostersunds at the end of 2016 but failed to get playing time in the Southern Saudi outfit. Najran’s hope for promotion is still on as they are fourth with 37 points, 8 points adrift of log leaders Al Fayha Club.

Sogndal kicked off their league campaign with an away loss to Sarpsborg 08 FF. The club will host Stabæk Fotball at the Fosshaugane Campus on Week 2 of the Norwegian Eliteserien League tie.
