The 2017 Total CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup group stages draw were conducted in Egyptian capital Cairo earlier today at the Head Quarter of the continent’s football governing body.
Newly elected CAF incumbent Ahmad Ahmad attended the draw as Ethiopian flag bearers Kidus Giorgis pooled against holders Mamelodi Sundowns, Esperance de Tunis and AS Vita Club.
The Horsemen managed to cruise to the group stages at the expenses of Seychellois side Cote d’Or and Congo Republic giants AC Leopards. This has been a successful Champions League campaign for the record Ethiopian champions as they are yet to concede a goal this season. Nonetheless, the tough group stage draw has pitted them against reigning African champions Sundowns. The Brazilians are on their way to defending their ABSA Premiership title and definitely seek a repeat of last season’s Champions League success.
Kidus Giorgis will kick start their maiden group stage campaign away to South Africa against Mamelodi Sundowns. Tunisian giants Esperance host AS Vita Club on the dates between May, 12-14.
