Ethio-American midfielder Iyassu Tesfaye has reportedly landed a trial stint in German lower division sides, according to statement obtained by Soccer Ethiopia from his agent duo Steven Henning and David Beshah. The 24 years old midfielder spent the first half of the 2016/17 Ethiopian Premier League with Dedebit as he made some substation appearance for the Blues on the league campaign and 2016 Addis Ababa City Cup.
Following ditching Dedebit for Europe in March, Iyassu joined Bulgarian third division side Kaliakra Kavarna on six month deal with an option for a year extension; although, Iyassu never had played for the Kavarna after failing to acquire a work permit. “The team and owner of the club loved him (Iyassu). The problem was they get him a work permit. So, he wasn’t able to play in Bulgaria,” his representative Henning remarked to Soccer Ethiopia.
Iyassu will be having a try out campaign with three German lower side clubs. VfV 06 Hildesheim and FC Meklenburg Schwerin have agreed to give the midfielder a trial period with their first teams. Another unnamed fourth division club will also hand a similar trial to Iyassu. VfV 06 Hildesheim is a fourth division club from the Lower Saxony region while FC Meklenburg Schwerin is a fifth division club from Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
On June another Ethiopian import Binyam Belay had unsuccessful tryout campaign with Bundesliga 2 clubs SG Dynamo Dresden and Erzgebirge Aue before settling in Albania with the 2017/18 Europa League bound KF Skënderbeu Korçë on a three year deal with possibility of continuation for another year.
