​Ethiopians Abroad Roundup: Shemeles, Walid on Target as Gatoch Makes Anzhi Debut

Binyam Belay (KF Skenderbeu/Albania)

Ethiopian midfielder Binyam Belay remained on the bench last Monday as Skenderbeu slavaged a point away to KS Kamza. Binyam made it back to the squad for the week 2 Albanian topflight duel after being left out of the squad last Thursday in 3-1 loss to Dynamo Kyiv in Europa League group opener tie. The former Ethiopia Nigd Bank player is yet to make a league debut with Skenderbeu as he struck his first goal fortnight ago in Albanian Cup game.

Following the draw Skenderbeu sits third in the log table with four points and are set to face KF Partizani in week 3 encounter to be held at the city of Korce.


Gatoch Panom (Anzhi Makhachkala / Russia)
A historic moment ultimately popped up for Ethiopian international Gatoch Panom as he made his first ever debut for the Russian club in a knockout cup game. A late Mohammed Hassan Mido goal forced Smouha SC to be held at home to El Nasr Club as Ethiopian forward Oumed Okuri played 60 minutes. Oumed, who happened to score on his Smouha debut, made a way to Burkinabe international Banou Diawara at the hour mark. El Sayed Farid’s 69th minute strike was canceled out by Mido at stoppage time.

After notching there first three points, Petrojet climbed up to 8th with 4 points whilst Smouha are second with 5 points, a point adrift of leaders El Masry SC. Petrojet set to take on Tanta SC at home while Smouha are Wadi Degla FC in matchday 4 encounter.


Walid Atta (Al Khaleej FC/Saudi Arabia)
A late Waild Atta goal rescued Al Khaleej FC in the Saudi Division 1 game on Wednesday. Al Khaleej and Jeddah Club played out a one all draw in week 2 tie. Jeddah Club managed to take the lead till Walid struck the leveler three minutes before time. The center back made a move to the Eastern Saudi club following the annulment of his contract with Najaran SC. Walid had also managed to score for the first time since his Ostersunds day. A brief spell at Ostersunds saw the defender struck a brace in a 4-2 home loss

Al Khaleej sits seventh in the league table with four points. They will host Al-Ta’ee Ha’ill in round three game.
