A former Ethiopian Football Federation executive committee member Dimitri Sgolombis has passed away at the age of 99. Sgolombis had worked as the first EFF executive committee member for virtually two decades.
The former player of Addis Ababa Olympiakos team and a long time serving member of the EFF, Sgolombis was born in the largest city of South Western Ethiopia, Jimma. He has had a distinguished career with Greece community club Olympiakos. Sgolombis’s parents hail from Greece. He has served as an executive committee member of the EFF from 1947 to early 1970’s. He was the head of the Ethiopian national team delegation who took part in the fifth African Cup of Nations hosted by Tunisia in 1965.
Apart from football Sgolombis was a founder and the first president of the Ethiopian Tennis Federation in the 1960’s while veteran sport journalist Fekrou Kidane assigned as the general secretary. Sgolombis made the United States his home since he left Ethiopia long ago.
We at Soccer Ethiopia would like to extend our condolences over the passing of Mr. Sgolombis!
