The world football governing body, FIFA, plans to open East Africa coordination office in Addis Ababa as promised by President Gianni Infantino in March, 2017 during CAF General Assembly. Soccer Ethiopia has learnt that FIFA will be sending a representative to the country at the wee hours of Friday morning to assess locations for office space.
Ethiopian Football Federation officials have been reportedly working to secure a place for the office. The FIFA representative, before departing from Addis on Saturday, will be assessing locations where the office would be stationed. He is expected to report his findings back to FIFA for a final approval and decision.
When fully operational, the office will serve particularly the Eastern African countries in getting the necessary support and strengthening their relationship with FIFA. The Addis Ababa office will raise the number of regional offices of FIFA in Africa to three, after Senegal and South Africa.
