Ethiopian topflight side Fasil Ketema has parted ways with head coach Mentesnot Getu and his assistant Tegegn Equbay citing a string of poor outings. The Gondar club took no time to name a successor as they appointed Mesay Teferi as their new head trainer.
The Emperors, who are having their second season stay in the league, put up a poor form after an astounding first season. Coach Mentesnote was under heavy criticism from Fasil fans as the teams failed to perform well under his leadership. Fasil are 7th with 26 points, only 6 points adrift of table toppers Dedebit. The Emperor’s board decided to relieve both coach Mentesnote and his assistant Tegegn. The shuffle in the technical bench triggered after the club held to a goalless home draw by Jimma Aba Jifar. Coach Mentesnot took over the helm at Fasil from Zemariam Woldegiorgis in the 2016/17 season likewise he was appointed on a permanent base at the beginning of the new season.
The club will now be led by former Wolaitta Dicha head trainer Mesay Teferi. The ex ArbaMinch Textile and Ethiopia Bunna forward was sacked as coach of Dicha in November 2017. He was tipped to take over the helm at his hometown club ArbaMinch Ketema but the Crocodiles appointed his former teammate Eyob Maale. Mesaye will begin his Fasil assignment away to Woldia on round 19 of the premier league.
