Ethiopian side Wolaitta Dicha were beaten 2-0 to Tanzanian giants Young Africans in the CAF Total Confederations Cup last qualifying round playoffs first leg encounter in Dar es Salaam. Yanga struck in each half to walk away with a 2-0 advantage ahead of the return leg in a week time.
It took Yanga 28 seconds from the onset to break the deadlock through Raphael Daudi. Mwinyi Haji’s delivery from the left flank was easily turned in by Daudi as Yanga took an early lead. The Bees of Tona were not troubled following the early goal they conceded rather they saw much of the possession likewise tried to get back to the tie. Five minutes into the game Emmanuel Martin’s effort was superbly blocked out by Mubarak Shekur. Daudi could have completed his brace two minutes later but he skied the ball over the bar. The visitors could only register one meaningful attempt on goal as Bezabeh Meleyo’s powerful shot was denied by Yanga custodian Youthe Rostand.
After the resumption Bezabeh tested an alerted Rostand in the 53rd minute before the homers doubled their lead through Martin’s header. Rostand was quick to deny Bezabeh on his third effort on goal as the club from Sodo failed to pull one back.
Wolaitta Dicha have now conceded in each of their away continental outings. They need to overturn the two goals deficit when the two sides lock horns on April 18 at the Hawassa International Stadium, if they seek to go through to the group stages of the Confederations Cup.
