Alexandria based outfit Smouha SC have reached the Egypt Cup final after beating Alassiouty SC 4-3 on penalties. Oumod Okuri has become the second Ethiopian player to reach a cup final in Egypt following Salahdin Said that achieved the feat in 2013 with Wadi Degla.
Smouha have a remake of the 2014 final as they set a date with Cairo giants Zamalek. The Blue Waves took a lead in the 72nd minute but were conceded a late penalty as the teams headed to additional 30 minutes and later on penalty shootouts. Oumed headed wide a good free kick delivery from the right flank in the first interval. Both sides stood firm at the back where scoring chances were limited.
Smouha broke the deadlock in the second half when midfielder Ahmed Temsah’s strick from range awkwardly bounced and past the Alassiouty custodian. Temsah scored the opener barely minute after his introduction while Oumed was substituted out 10 minutes before full time. Namibian forward Benson Shilongo calmly converted a late penalty to tie the score at 1-1.
Smouha won the duel 4-3 on penalty shootout. Alassiouty reached the semi-final of the Egypt Cup having beaten league champions Al Ahly 1-0 in the quarter final.
On Monday Zamalek trounced Ismaily 4-1 in the other semi-final encounter.
The Egypt Cup champions will be playing in the 2019 CAF Total Confederation Cup.
