Ethiopia dropped one place to the 146th position in the latest FIFA Coca Cola World Ranking released Thursday, May 17.
The Waliyas were 145th with 188.34 points in the April ranking but lost fraction of points to drop to 146th and share the place with Burundi. Ethiopia still remains the lowly ranked side in Africa as they are 42nd. Lack of international games in the last couple of months saw Ethiopia dangle in 130’s and 140’s.
The last competitive game the team played was against Uganda in Kakamega, Kenya during the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup. The national side is still without a head trainer following the departure of Ashenafi Bekele. The football politics and election overshadowed the national side in the recent months. The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) president Juneidi Basha previously told Soccer Ethiopia that the Federation would hire a new coach soon back in April.
The Ethiopian Women national side was not ranked in the last world ranking which was in March after 18 months of inactivity but Lucy’s’ are expected to get included in the latest ranking after playing a doubleheader against Libya in the African Women Cup of Nations qualifier in April. FIFA release the Women World Ranking in every three month.
Tunisia remains the top ranked side in Africa while World champions Germany maintains top spot in the global ranking.
