Wolwalo Adigrat University managed to hold on to their slender lead from the first interval as they swept aside Mekele Ketema in a tie played out at Shire. Due to fans mayhem at Adigrat that occurred when the two sides met over a month ago, the tie was aborted at half time. Wolwalo were leading 1-0 courtesy goal from Alsari Almahi, who is now suspended for a year for an assault on a referee and an opposition player.
It took the encounter 57 days to end after a repetitive rescheduling of the second half. Wolwalo stared off the second half on high but they were not effective enough to double their advantage. Meanwhile, Mekele Ketema piled on the pressure in the last 15 minutes in search of the equalizer. Mekele were a man down after former ArbaMinch Ketema forward Amele Milkias got his marching order for dissent. Wolwalo custodian Yohannes Shikur pulled off a great save to deny Ghanaian midfielder Amos Achempong in the dying moments of the game.
Wolwalo are still in the drop zone with 23 points, a point shy of 13th placed Ethio-Electric. Mekele Ketema missed out on a chance to take the top spot at the summit of the league as they occupy third place with 39 points, one point adrift of leaders Jimma Aba Jifar and second placed Kidus Giorgis.
