Thai League 1 outfit Chainat Hornbill FC has shown interest to sign Ethiopian midfielder Mikias Girma. The Bahirdar Ketema player has been in a week-long tryout with the club. The Chai Nat Province based club gave Mikias a trail stint a week ago.
Mikia’s Steven Henning told Soccer Ethiopia that the club is interested in getting service of the former Kidus Giorgis youth team player. “The trail went very well and it will end today. The club’s German coach really liked Mikias’s passion and sees a bright future on him. Chainat wants to sign him but they still couldn’t arrange to release one foreigner so that there can be a place for Mikias.”
Henning is optimistic that Chainat will release or loan one of their foreigner before June 29 to accommodate Mikias on the team. “If there is a place for Mikias as per the quota, then he will start playing in July. Until then he will be back to Ethiopia and finish the league with Bahirdar.”
Bahiradar Ketema reportedly expressed their frustration on Mikias for traveling to the Far East to attend the trails in the midst of the league season. The Waves of Tana has notified the player to return to the club sooner than later.
Chainat won promotion to the Thai League 1 in 2017. In the 2018 Thai League 1 Chainat occupies 13th place with 21 points, 11 points above the relegation zone. The club is home to UEFA Champions League winner forward Florent Sinama Pongolle (Pictured below with Mikias Girma).
