The newly elected president and vice president of the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) will travel to Russian capital Moscow later tonight to participate in the 68th FIFA Congress, which is slated for Wednesday, June 13.
President Esayas Jira and his vice president Colonel Awol Abdurahim together with EFF’s secretary general Solomon Gebreselassie are expected to attend the Congress.
The host of the 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to be revealed on the same day as Morocco and a joint bid from the United States of America, Canada and Mexico are the only frontrunners. Ethiopia is expected to back the Morocco bid. EFF has got numerous supports from Morocco in recent months. Ethiopian coaches attended a month-long capacity building training sessions and the national team played a friendly game against Morocco’s local national side.
Apart from deciding on the 2026 World Cup host nation, the FIFA Congress will discuss on other agendas.
