Ethiopian National Team
The Walias will meet for training on September 30 ahead of their double header against Kenya. Abraham Mebratu’s side have revived their hopes of progressing to AFCON 2019 after their 1-0 win over Sierra Leone earlier this month. There have been questions of when the team will assemble ahead of their crucial games against Kenya but now the date has been confirmed to be on September 30.
Abdulkerim Mohammed and Senayit Bogale Win The EBC Award
National state broadcaster EBC has organized the second edition of The EBC Sport Award on Sunday. Dedebit midfielder Senayit Bogale has won the Female best footballer award. Senayit was awarded 75,000 birr and a trophy.
St. George and Ethiopia National Team Right Back Abdulkerim Mohammed has won the best male footballer award. He too got the trophy and 75,000 birr award money.
In other categories Solomon Barega wins the best male athlete award while Genzebe Dibaba secured the best female athlete accolade. Sintayehu Eshetu won the newly added life time achievement award.
Addis Ababa City Cup
The Addis Ababa Football Federation said the City Cup, a tournament which takes place before the start of the Premier League season, will take place from October 6-21.
Tigray Cup
The Tigray Cup will start on September 29 and will take place at Mekelle International Stadium. The participating clubs will be Premier League sides Mekelle Ketema, Wolwalo A.U, and newly promoted Shire Endesillase. Ethiopian Second division side Axum Ketema and Dire Dawa Ketema, who are doing their pre-season training in Mekelle, and Mekelakeya will also participate in the Cup.
Transfers
-Former Ethiopia Bunna keeper Harisston has joined newly promoted Bahir Dar Ketema on a one year deal. The Benin international spent two seasons at Bunna.
– Hawassa Ketema have acquired Togo international Kwame Fovi Agwidi on a 1 year contract. The player can also play on the wings. He joins Hawassa after returning from Bahrain.
– Fasil Ketema have signed 2 Nigerian strikers. 27-year-old Efeni Edi and 29 -year-old Izu Azuka have joined The Emperors.
– Ethiopia Premier League Champions Jimma Aba Jifar have bolstered their squad by acquiring two players from Shire Endesillase.
– Striker Ledetu Lemma, who finished top scorer of Group A in the Ethiopian Second Division with 12 goals, has joined Jimma Aba Jifar. Agreement has been made between the two parties a while back but the move wasn’t made official until this week. The second signing is Brook Gebreab who can play both in midfield and attack.
– Ethiopian Higher League champions Debub Police have signed six players on a one year contract. Full Back Anagaw Badeg, Striker Carlos Damtew, Center Back Zerihun Anshebo, Midfielders Zelalem Isaias, Asamenew Anjelo and AddisAlem Debebe are the new signings.
– Wolwalo A.U have signed veteran striker Dawit Fekadu.
