Ahead of their AFCON 2019 qualifier against Kenya, Ethiopian national team head coach Abraham Mebratu and Captian Getaneh Kebede faced the media at Capital Hotel on Monday.
Abraham Mebratu said that after his side’s win against Sierra Leone and Kenya’s triumph over Ghana all four teams have equal chance of qualifying to the tournament.
Answering questions regarding the short duration of training they will have before the game the coach said that they already know about the schedule and they will focus on recovery works at first. He said they plan to have seven full days of training before the game in Bahir Dar.
The coach also said that he is planning to organize a second (reserve) team and hopes he will have a strong squad ahead of CHAN 2020.
Getaneh Kebede: “Our goal is to win all of our home games. The fact that The Ethiopian Cup took place between our two qualifiers meant that the players have different fitness level. This is the only problem at the moment. However, we hope the win against Sierra Leone will be a huge boost.”
The team arrived at Bahir Dar on Monday and did some light training during the evening.
