The football governing body, FIFA, has suspended Sierra Leone from all national team competitions due to the government’s interference in football matters.
Sierra Leone are placed in Group F of the AFCON 2019 qualifier and have played two games so far. They have three points after beating Kenya and losing to Ethiopia.
Sierra Leone’s suspension will mean that the three points The Walias acquired by winning 1-0 at Hawassa last month will no longer be valid. This will also make the double header against Kenya more important than ever.
FIFA has stated that the ban will be lifted ‘once the Sierra Leone Football Association and its recognised leadership have confirmed to FIFA that the SLFA adminstration, premises, accounts and communication channels are under their control.’
