Desta Demu is the new Horseman
Kidus Giorgis has captured the signature of the promising young center back Desta Demu from Wolwalo.
Desta began his career with now extinct Mugher Cement and then went on to Dedebit where he made his mark for maturity beyond his age. He was the leading figure at the heart of Dedbit’s defense, showing impressively strong decision-making has brought him under the spotlight.
Last season, he was an integral part of the Wolwalo squad that finished 10th with 37 points. He is expected to bring in more solidity to Kidus Giorgis backline which conceded the fewest league goals last season. Kidus Giorgis is expected to have the strongest center back partnership of Aschalew Tamene and Desta Demu ahead of the 2019/20 season.
Fasil Kenema appoints Wubetu’s successor
Fasil kenema were in search of new head coach after Wubetu Abate submitted a resignation letter last month, days after the team was crowned Ethiopian cup winners. Sources close to Soccer Ethiopia have now confirmed that Seyoum Kebede is set to become the successor of Wubetu Abate.
Seyoum Kebede was in attendance at the BahirDar International stadium as Fasil kenema registered a slender 1-0 win over Azam FC in the CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round first leg tie.
Seyoum Kebede, in an interview with Soccer Ethiopia, has confirmed his appointment and disclosed that his main plan is to carry on the positive footsteps left by his predecessor.
Seyoum is expected to commence his new job tomorrow as Fasil Kenema will be back in training for the return leg with Azam FC in 2 weeks time in Tanzania’s capital Dar es Salaam.
The experienced coach who had a successful coaching career in Yemen, had also worked as an assistant coach for Sewnet Bishaw in the 2013 AFCON. Last season he was in charge of the relegated Mekelakeya but was sacked mid-season.
Mesfin Taffese is set to become Hawassa’s highest earner
Much has been made of Hawassa’s youth, especially with the likes of Messay Pawlos, Israel Eshetu and lately the star forward Mesfin Taffese. More than half of Hawassa Kenema’s players were brought up in the club’s youth ranks in previous years.
Mesfin Taffese, who had been representing the club’s U-20 team was given a chance to impress by Addise Kassa last March, went on to score 8 goals for the senior team in all competitions in his very short spell with the senior side. Following his impressive display with the senior team, he was called to the Ethiopian National team and scored a late winner for the Walia’s against Djibouti.
With a national team call up and 8 goals under his belt, the future seems bright for the youngster. That seems to be the reason why Hwassa kenema decided to extend the contract of the youngster for another two years, making him the highest earner of the team roaster.
In other news related to Hawassa Ketema The goalie Teklemariam Shanko, defenders Daniel Deribe and Addisalem Tesfaye, and the central Midfielder Aschenaki Lukas also extended their contracts.
Alsari Almahadi is heading South
The combative midfielder who can play as a center back, right back and also defensive midfielder has been confirmed as Wolkite Ketema’s 10th summer signing. Alsari who previously featured for Diredawa Ketema, Wolwalo and Sehul Shire will give Degarege Yegazwe an option due to his versatility.
In addition to new arrivals, the club has also extended the contracts of Ahmed Hussien who scored 13 goals last season in their Higher league triumph, the promising Midfilder Abdulkerim Worku, the veteran Cameroonian goalie Bilinge Enoh and Mohammed Shafi.
Zelalem Issayas on his way to reunite with his former coach
Wolaita Dicha recently appointed Gebrekirstos Birara as their head coach and has now begun recruiting new players for the upcoming season.
Gebrekirstos Birara who had a wonderful short spell with Debub police has acquired the signature of his former player on a one year deal.
Zelalem is among the players that registered the highest number of assists last season. He is expected to fill the voids created by the departure of Fitsum Teferi and Abdulsemed Ali.
Sehul Shire signed 4 new players
Sehul Shire who last season evaded relegation in the 29th week has had a busy few days in the office. They extended the contracts of Demetros Woldeslase and Abduselam Aman who joined the club at the start of the season extended their contract for another year.
Meanwhile the Ethiopian Bunna outcast goalie Wondosen Ashenafi, the experienced center back Bereket Tessema, midfielder Aklilu Walelegn and the Ghanaian full-back Adama Masalchi agreed to represent Sehul Shire next season.
Genanaw Regassa joins Wolwalo
Genanaw Reggasa reunited with his former Trainer Yohannes Sahile at Wolwalo. The energetic full-back will be the 4th player to join Wolwalo from Dire dawa this summer following Fekadu Deneke, Samuel Yohannes and Ramkel Lok.
Genanaw is expected to replace Enyew Kassahun who left the club for Fasil Kenema and now the club is expected to turn its face to a contract extension of players.
