Last season’s Ethiopia premier league Champion Mekelle 70 Enderta’s head coach Geberemedhin Haile is on the brink of prematurely ending his stay at Mekelle as he issued a resignation letter to the club in the aftermath of a recent elimination from the preliminary round of CAF champions league at the hands of Cano Sport Academy.
As Soccer Ethiopia understands the reason behind his resignation letter is fans vent frustration, following the club’s disappointing draw at home against the inexperienced Cano Sports where they were so wasteful upfront leading them to an early elimination from their debut continental encounter.
If Gebremedhin’s successful spell at Mekelle could be set to end prematurely, he will be the second head coach following Wubetu Abate to step down from his spot before the new season onset. Gebremedhin, a prolific striker during his playing days lead Mekelakeya to two Ethiopian Cup glory, has been a revelation in the Ethiopian premier league lately. The coach has also entered the history books by winning the Ethiopia premier league back to back with Jimma Aba Jiffar (2017/18) and Mekelle 70 Enderta (2018/19).
