Adane Girma is set to become a player-coach
The veteran versatile player Adane Girma is set to become a player-coach at the newly promoted side Wolkite Ketema.
Adane Girma departed from Kidus Giorgis last season after spending an illustrious career with the “Horsemen”. Last summer he returned to his boyhood club Hawassa Ketema where he spent the season there but he is expected to complete his move to the newly-promoted side Wolkite Ketema on a one year deal as new player assistant coach to the newly appointed Degarege Yigzaw.
Wolkite Kenema have previously agreed to land Temesgen Dana as an assistant coach but he’s deal failed to materialize and then he went on to become the new head coach of Debub Police.
The decorated player Adane Girma is currently attending a coaching course organized by the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) and Bayern Munich at the Ethiopian Youth Sports Academy.
Hawassa Ketema land Debub Police trio
Hawassa Ketema have acquired trio from Debub Police, goalie Habte Kedir, midfielder Zelalem Issayas, forward Yetesha Gizaw all decided to switch to the “The Lakers”
Habte Kedir who joined Debub Police at the start of the season enjoyed an impressive season where he made several crucial saves as he becomes a regular starter after the Departure of Zelalem Shiferaw. The former Dire Dawa, and Wolkite midfielder Zelalem Issayas is also on his way to Hawassa.
The veteran outside forward Yetesha Gizaw has been playing for the likes of Dedebit, Ethiopia Bunna, Mekelakeya is set to become Hawassa Kenema’s Fifth the summer signing, Yetesha spent last season with Debub Police where he scored 8 goals for his side and is expected to partner his former teammate Henock Ayele in Hawassa Kenema.
Wolaita Dicha signed three players
Former Wolaita Dicha goalie Mekbib degefu on his way back to his former club and the sodo side has also landed Temesgen Tamirat and Yigremachew Kebede.
Mekbib who started his professional playing career at Wolaita Dicha 7 years ago and was instrumental when his side was promoted to the top tier 5 seasons ago. He was voted goalkeeper of the year in Ethiopia’s second division, since leaving Dicha he had several unsuccessful spells in Hawasssa Kenema, Adama Kenema, and Hambaricho Ketema.
Temesgen Tamirat is also the latest recruit, the promising midfielder yet to feature in any competitive match for senior side he came through Hawassa Kenema Youth conveyer belt and was a member of the Debub Police squad the past season, he was tipped to be a great player by then Debube Police and now Wolaita Dicha head coach Gebrekirstose Birrara. But Last season Gebrekirstose was keen to feature Temesgen after his appointment but he was ineligible to play because he wasn’t registered on time. In addition they have also signed the left back Yigremachew Tesfaye from Woldia Kenema.
Getachew Dawit reunites with Dedebit FC
Dedebit who secured a place in the newly established topflight league after a dreadful season which saw them finish bottom of the league with 13 points are set to hire Getachew Dawit as their new Head Coach for the upcoming season.
Getachew who was leading “The Blues“ 3 seasons ago is set to reunite with his former employees soon, Getachew has spent the last few years in charge of Welwalo, Axum Ketema and lead Mekelle 70 Enderta to their premier league promotion.
In related news, the club is also expected to return to where they have started by nurturing promising youngsters in unleashing their potential.
Temesgen Dana Land maiden Head Coaching role in topflight
The man behind Hawassa Kenema’s successful youth conveyer belt in recent years Temesgen Dana has been unveiled as the new Head coach of Debub Police for the coming two seasons.
In a press briefing held at the Club’s office, the newly appointed head coach was quoted
“Many teams have been contacting me and were offering me lucrative deals but the reason why I choose this club is that the club is very keen on working with youngsters and I am here to do what the team hasn’t achieved in its history.”
“The fact that I may be a new face in coaching at the highest level doesn’t mean I am totally new to the situation. I am very aware of the situation in Ethiopian topflight Football; I have been watching the league for 20 years and have a glimpse of it last season. I am an upcoming coach and I’m sure that I and the youth players we had in store we can do something remarkable.”
Temesgen has been coaching Hawassa Ketema U-17 & U-20 teams before he was elevated to become the senior sides assistant Coach last season.
Filipe Ovono and Aschalew Tamene is set to stay at their respective clubs
Filipe Ovono and Aschalew Girma have finally penned a contract extension with their respective clubs with Ovono set to be with the reigning Ethiopian Champions for another year meanwhile Aschalew penned for two more years after their faith was on a crossroad following their contract expiration.
Filipe Ovono who was making headlines after his contract with the reigning Ethiopian Premier League champions expired last August and was heavily been linked with a move to the ABSA premiership has finally agreed to extend his contract with Mekelle for another Year.
Meanwhile, Wolkite bound Aschalew Tamene is also expected to lead the Kidus Giorgis’s strong backline next season.
In related news to Mekelle has given a trial for the Malian international Moussa Camara and Mamadou Simpara and also acquired the signature of the versatile defender Tesfaye Melaku last week from Jimma Aba Jiffare.
Yussuf Saleh signed for his 11th club
The Explosive Ethiopian international winger Yussuf Saleh has landed his 11th club deal, this time joining the Swedish 6th division side Farsta after his contract with Swedish third division side Vasalunds IF expired.
The 35-year-old Yussuf was a member of the 2015 Ethiopian national team that took part in the AFCON held in South Africa and played for the national side 16 times scoring merely two goals.
5th Club in 5 years for unsettled Omod Okori
Ethiopian international Omod Okori has joined Aswan who was promoted back to Egypt’s top tier after finishing winners of Egyptian Second Division group A.
Omod Okori will be the 16th summer signing for his new side desperate to establish themselves in the top tier.
The 28-year-old Omod with blazing speed and a rocket left boot has struggled to impress in Egypt after his move to Egypt back in 2014 from serial Ethiopian Premier League champions Kidus Giorgis.
Since moving to Egypt he has been playing for the likes of Ittihad of Alexandria, ENPPI, Entag El Harby and lastly in Smouha where he wore the blue shirt 66 times scoring six goals and assisting seven.
The new Egyptian season will be kicking off this Saturday with Omod’s new side Aswan will face MIsr Al Makassa on Sunday at the Aswan stadium.
Zelalem Shiferaw reunites with his former players
Zenebe Kebeda and Anagawe Badeg reunited with their Former trainer Zelalem Shiferaw following their move to Mekelakeya went through.
Zenebe Kebede who previously worked with Zelalem in his spell with Sidama Bunna and Diredawa ketema meanwhile Anagawe had also spells with him at this time in Diredawa and Debub Police.
Mekelakeya’s transfer business is set to be done and is expected to commence their preseason preparation at Bishoftu the coming days.
Haider Sherefa is Orange & Red
Last season start performer Haider Sherefa a member of Soccer Ethiopia’s Ethiopian premier league 2018/19 all-star was being hunted by clubs for his acquisition.
Haider joined Mekelle 70 Enderta from Ethiopian Higher league side Jimma Aba Bunna Last summer took him no time to settle in his new side where he spent a remarkable season leading them to their maiden Ethiopian premier League crown.
After his contract expired with Mekelle several clubs shown a desire to sign him including Ethiopia Bunna but Haider finally opted to join Kidus Giorgis who are set for a fresh start to the new campaign aiming to return to glory days under the Serb Srdan ZIvojhov.
Hussien Shabani joins Bugesera FC
The 29-year-old Burundian international Hussien Shabani after mutually terminating his contract with Ethiopia Bunna joined Rwandan side Bugesera Fc.
Hussien Shabani had a good half-season with Ethiopia Bunna after joining them from South African side Baroka Fc in the Winter Transfer window, he was a member of his national side that took part in the 2014 African nations cup and 2019 AFCON.
Bugesera Fc who finished last season 12th with 35 points in the Rwandan league has added the powerful Burundian to their squad
Mohammed Abduletif back to Ethiopia
The former Sidama Bunna and Ashanti Gold player Mohammed Latif is on his way back to Ethiopia this time joining Northern Ethiopia side Sehule Shire.
Mohammed who can play as in different roles at the left corridor has made 5 appearances to senior “Black Stars” joined Sehule Shire in a one year deal after his contract with Equatorial Guinea side Futuro Kings Fc and is Sehule Shire’s 7th summer signing after the Ivorian international Didder Lebri also joined Shire from Jimma Aba Jiffar.
Frezer Kassa Joins Dire in search of playing minutes
Frezer Kassa who was one of the promising players 3 seasons ago is now heading to Diredawa Kenema in search of playing regularly.
Frezer Kassa who was brought through Kidus Giorgis youth ranks was an instrumental player in the 2016/17 season where Kidus Giorgis become the very first team to reach the group stages of the new CAF Champions League format.
But he was struggling to feature regularly and mostly sidelined after the arrival of Abdulkerim Mohammed and Henock Adunga in successive summer transfer windows and wanted to move away after his chances were very far from coming.
Diredawa Ketema who offloaded two of its right-backs Zenebe Kebede and Genanawe Regassa to Mekelakeya and Welwalo A/U were in pursuit to sign a right full-back landed Frezer for two years.
