Once renowned to be among one of the thrilling flairs in Italian Football has finally returned home, penning a one year deal with last season Ethiopian Cup winners Fasil Kenema after impressing them in his trial stint.
Melkamu born in Debretabor, South Gonder left Ethiopia to Italy aged just 3; He’s already represented “The Azuri” at Under-16, Under-17 level making a total of 18 appearances.
Former Inter Milan U-17 side Captain Melkamu has previously played for Arzachena in Seri-C has been given offers from clubs based in Israel and also Al Gaish in Egypt but Melkamu opted to represent his home town club.
In a short interview with Soccer Ethiopia Melkamu disclosed that joining his home town club was an honor exceeding those 19 years he spent in Italy and also his main aim this season would be helping Fasil achieve things and representing the Ethiopian national team are among his main targets.
Melkamu’s deal has been settled weeks ago but issues related to work permit and citizenship have not been settled soon causing a delay in the official announcement of the deal according to his agent Timotious Baye.
