The brand new 2019/20 Ethiopian Premier League season will kick-off on November 23.
The newly formed Ethiopian premier league’s main committee has today announced that the 2019/20 Ethiopian Premier League will kick off on 23rd and 24th of November but yet the curtain-raiser, Ethiopian Cup winners Cup date is still unknown.
Most Leagues in the world, even in neighboring East Africa have provisional kick-off dates for the upcoming season being confirmed before the previous season curtains were closed but the story is different here with the 2018/19 seasons put to bed 3 months ago the onset of the new campaign as always was announced very late as most sides are on the second (third) weeks of their preseason preparation and also with lesser bid to align the Ethiopian Footballing calendar with the international calendar.
The recent Ethiopian football Federations (EFF) plot to upsurge the number of sides taking part in the premier league to 24 sides was reversed by the FDRE sports commission weeks ago and also the EFF recently held a meeting with clubs for the incorporation of “Ethio Premier League S.C” but yet again things didn’t go as planned.
Once again the plot was reversed and EFF and clubs agreed upon that the Ethiopian premier league authority to be given to freshly established Premier league main committee comprising of 7 members nominated from the 16 contestant’s clubs, following the election process Ethiopian Coffee president Fekade Mamo was appointed as the chairman while Kesate Legessefrom Mekelle 70 Enderta was appointed as the deputy chairman for the Premier League main committee.
The league’s main committee held its very first meeting at the newly franchised headquarters of the EFF about the onset of the new season, how the committee should be organized and also handing over of documents from EFF were the main agendas for today’s meeting.
After the meeting the 2019/20 Ethiopian Premier League season was first reported to be kicking off on the 16th of November but on the 16th and 19th of November the Ethiopian national will be taking on the Madagascar and Ivory Coast counterpart in the 2021 African Cup of Nations so due to that it was rescheduled to be on November 23, meanwhile the draw for the new season Is expected to be held very soon.
