The 3rd Annual Adama city cup commenced today after 7 years of absence at the Adama Ababe Bikila stadium, as matchday one saw host Adama ketema and Fasil kenema being victorious.
6 sides are taking part in this edition grouped into two groups of three as group A saw host Adama Ketema, Jimma Aba Jiffar and Hadia Hossana meanwhile Group B features Fasil Kenema , Hawassa ketema, and Diredawa Ketema.
Two games were held today one from each as the opening match of Group B saw Fasil Kenema came from behind to beat Hawassa Ketema.
Biruk Beyene opened the scoring for Hawassa early in the first half courtesy to Fasil Kenema’s skipper Yared Bayeh’s costly error.
Following the early lead Hawassa opted to sit back and defend their early lead but that invited pressure from Fasil and eventually lead to an equalizing goal from Mujib Qassim in the 23rd minute.
The Ghanian import Ausi Mawli also scored a screamer from outside the box to hand his side a slender advantage going into half time, and also after the restart Mawli who recently joined Fasil from reigning Ethiopian premier league champions Mekelle 70 Enderta scored a nice header to hand his side there first three points of the Tournament.
The second match between Adama Ketema and Jimma Aba Jiffare ended 2-0 in favor of Adama.
The first half saw an untidy display from both sides with Adama enjoying a better share of the ball but failed to create enough goal scoring chances.
After the restart rejuvenated Adama was fantastic from start to end as Sulieman Samid and Haile Eshetu strike in the 59th & 61st minute were enough to seal the deal for Adama.
