Premier League Review | Game Week Four

The 2019/20 Ethiopian premier league has reached game week four with 8 games played across the weekend, Ethiopia Bunna registered an emphatic win aginst Hawassa, while Sidama Bunna’s 19 games unbeaten streak at home came to an end as Sebeta Ketema collected 3 points for the first time after promotion.

On Saturday 7 games were held. Bahir Dar Ketema once again showed what they are capable of doing to opponents at their own back yard as they hammered the struggling Diredawa Ketema 4-1 at the Bahirdar international stadium. The duo in form Malian import Mamadou Sidibe and Fitsum Alemu scored a brace each as Richmond Adongo scored the conciliation goal for the visitors.

Bahirdar Ketema are starting to score goals for fun this year as oppose to last season were they were wining match’s in the narrowest margin. They have now 7 goals in 4 matches with Sidibe and Fitsum sharing 6 goals between them.

At the Hawassa Stadium reigning Ethiopian premier league champions Mekelle 70 Enderta halted Sidama Bunna’s 21 home matches unbeaten strike in front of fully packed Hawassa stadium as they registered a slender 2-1 win aginst them in the highly anticipated fixture of the weekend. Yared Kebede and Amanuel G/Michael were on target for Mekelle while Abebayehu Yohannes scored the solitary goal for his side.

Fasil Kenema also secured a comprehensive 3-0 win against Hadiya Hossana, Ousi Mawli’s wonder strike and goals from Bezabih Meleyo and Mujib Qassim returned Fasil back to winning ways after there shocking 1-0 loss at the hands of Wolkite Ketema last week, in a match shadowed by nonsporting behaviors from the visitors exhibited one red card and 8 Hossana players being booked for there misconduct.

At the Abiyo Arsamo stadium in the clash between the two newly promoted sides saw Sebeta Ketema register their first win of the new campaign on Wolkite Kenema, Aschalew Girma’s 8th minute strike was enough to hand Wubetu Abate’s side their first three point.

Adama Ketema were held to a two goal draw against Wolaita Dicha at the Adama Ababa Bikila Stadium. Dawa Hottesa gave the host the breakthrough but Bayeh Gezahegn’s spot kick and Edris Seid’s consecutive strikes early in the second half reverted the score for the visitors but once again Adama’s savior Dawa Hottesa successfuly converted from the spot kick to salvage a draw for his side. Adama seem to loose there fear factor while playing at their own back yard, from the 3 matches they played at home this season they only won once drawing the other two.

Meanwhile at the Capital, Sehul Shire without 4 of their key players due to an ongoing dispute with the club regarding an unpaid salary, robbed one point from Kidus Giorgis. Sehul Shire’s ultra defensive approach were fruit full at the end with their goalliie Wondosen Ashenafi stooling the show for his time wasting. Similarly on the other game played on Saturday league leaders Wolwalo were held to a frustrating goalless draw to Jimma Aba Jifare in the Tigray international stadium.

In the only fixture on Sunday rampant Ethiopia Bunna got their first win of the season, with one of the best performances of the freashly reinovated Ethiopia Bunna. The home side’s expansive football was too much to handel for Hawassa as they were outclassed by Bunna. Endale Debalke Hattrick and Abel Kebede’s goal were more than enough for Ethiopia Bunna to send the visitors home head down regardless of Biruk Beyene’s late strike.
