Premier League Review | Game Week 8 

Game week 8 of the 2019/20 Ethiopian Premier League were held across the weekend as league leaders Wolawlo A/U forced to slip from their pole position, as Fasil Kenema and Mekelle 70 Enderta were all victorious meanwhile Hadiya Hossana registered their first back to back win of the season.

The fixture between Sebeta Ketema and Jimma Aba Jiffar on Saturday saw the onset of game week 8, Sebeta who are showing improvement after their dreadful start to the campaign emerged 3-1 victorious. Goals from Fitsum G/Mariam, Mesoud Mohammed, and Syla Ali were enough to return Sebeta to winning ways after suffering a loss in their previous outings against Sehul Shire, with this win in hand Sebeta climbed to 7th with 11 points.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the rest 7 fixtures were held to start of Adama Ketema for the 5th time this season was held to draw, this time they drew 1-1 against Addise Kassa’s ultra-defensive Hawassa side in match were the two goals were scored from the Spot kick with Bereket Desta for Adama and Henock Dilbie scoring the equalizer from Hawassa.

At the Tigray international stadium league leaders Wolwalo suffered yet another upset after losing 1-0 to a seemingly struggling Hadiya Hossana. At the Atse Fasiledes Stadium Fasil Ketema maintained their unbeaten run at home as they got a slender 2-1 win against Ethiopia Bunna. their talisman Mujib Qassim once again making the headlines scoring goals in each half to hand his side the 3 points while Habtamu Tadese scored the only goal for Ethiopia Bunna. The Emperors are now 2nd in the table just a point adrift from the league leaders Mekelle 70 Enderta.

Wolaita Dicha suffered a 2-0 loss against Sehul Shire at the Sodo Stadium, the energetic full-back Remedan Nasser and Habtamu Shewalem’s spot-kick handed Sehul Shire the valuable three points away from home. Following the Match, Wolaita Dicha’s head coach Gebrekirstos Birara is on the verge of being sacked by the club officials following their poor run of form that led the side being bottom of the league table.

Kidus Giorgis escaped a late minute drama as they slipped from 3 goals lead to earning a hard-fought 3-2 win at the Addis Ababa stadium, Getaneh Kebede grabbed a brace and the man of fire Gadissa Mebrate scored a superb curler from a tight angle free-kick. Ghanaian import Richmond Adongo and second-half substitute Muhedin Mussa reduced the deficit for Diredawa. Veteran Kidus Giorgis forwards Getaneh Kebede and Saladin Seid were forced to walk off the field after sustaining injuries in the course of the match. Kidus Giorgis is now 4th with 13 points.

This week also saw Sidama Bunna return to winning ways after sawing off Bahirdar ketema 3-1 at the Hawassa Stadium, strikes from their skipper Addis Gidey, Habtamu Gezahegn, and Abebayehu Yohannes were enough to return Sidama Bunna after a frustrating two losses while Sintayehu Yohannes scored the conciliation goal for Bahirdar.

Mekelle 70 Enderta stun Wolkite Ketema courtesy to Amanuel G/Micheal’s 86th minute strike to place at the top of the table with 16 points.
