Third day action saw Bahir Dar earning a statement win against holders Kidus Giorgis.
In what was a mouthwatering clash of game week 6 Bahir Dar Ketema edge 10 man Kidus Giorgis 2-1 to inflict the first loss of the campaign for holders while lifting themselves into the leading pack.
Kidus Giorgis players and fans were shocked early on as the recurring theme of game week 6 was on show in the opening exchanges, Moses Odo was shown a straight red card in the 8th minute for headbutting Mesay Agengehu which was the fifth dismissal of game week 6.
But Kidus Giorgis players were galvanized by the red card and were by far the superior side in the first half with a spirited performance on the pitch.
Bahir Dar Ketema who failed to make their numerical superiority felt for most of the first half ultimately took the lead just before halftime through Firaol Mengistu.
After the restart Kidus Giorgis were off to a good start but it was Bahir Dar Ketema who found the back of the net yet again, Chernet Guggsa came down to hunt his former employees by extending Bahir Dar’s lead in the 53rd minute.
Kidus Giorgia eventually reduced the deficit in the 80th minute through Amanuel Terfu.
The win meant Bahir Dar Ketema now on 11 points move themselves into 5th spot while losers Kidus Giorgis remain top with 13 points.
In the late kickoff between two sides that parted company with their head coaches during the international break ended in a stalemate.
Hadiya Hossana being led by Girma Tadesse and Sidama Bunna under Aregawi Wondimu started their tenure in a draw.
The draw left Sidama 10th with 5 points while Hadiya are in 14th with 4 points.
